Below are some examples of the messages we’ve received from our clients. If you’ve had a day on the hill with us then please get in contact with any feedback you might have. Thanks.
Hazel and myself spent 4 days climbing all the Black Cuillin Munros with Martin. We had an amazing and memorable time, especially as conditions were far too wintry for June. Despite being nervous of heights I felt safe at all times. I never dreamed I’d be climbing the Cuillin in winter conditions. Martin, thank you so much, it was fantastic.
I recently had three days in Scotland with Andrew Rembrandt & your guide Martin Holland. I just wanted you to know how impressed I was with Martin. Obviously his mountaineering skills and experience were superb, but also his wealth of knowledge about Scotland in general and his continuous focus on client satisfaction made it a great trip. He also got me a first ascent on my first ever Winter climb! I would highly recommend him and would definitely use him again for any further adventures.
Cutting to the chase if you are reading this and contemplating using a guide in the Alps (or any of the mountain ranges) book Euan, just make sure it’s not the weeks I want! Within the last 12 months I have done two trips with Euan; firstly a June attempt on Mont Blanc and secondly my first ski touring trip in April this year around Les Contamines / Chamonix / North Italy. Check out his qualifications and technical skills, you won’t get any better, but what you do get with Euan is someone who is good company to share the mountains and a pint with – which can’t be said of all guides.
Having Euan, in his calm and modest way, confidently and expertly teach, explain and guide you around the hills, instils within me an unquestionable trust that all the important bases are covered, allowing me to achieve more than I thought possible. On both trips important decisions were required and this is where the guide really earns his corn – he got it spot-on in deciding to turn us back whilst ascending Mont Maudit on the way to the Mont Blanc summit (weather and my technical skills a problem) and this year he even managed to get the sun to shine on us for 2 days touring in North Italy whilst elsewhere weather was miserable!
The man really knows and enjoys the mountains and these skills and enthusiasm communicate from the first moment to the last – my next trip is already being planned.
[Martin’s] unassuming instructional style and advice was clear. His knowledge of the mountains, their names and history provided a fascinating insight into this beautiful landscape. His understanding of avalanches, associated weather systems and his ability to communicate this in a simple format was outstanding and left me with the confidence to get out into the mountains on my own – which is of course the ultimate aim. He pitched the standard of climbing exactly right.
I have used a number of instructors before and I would be unreserved in recommending Martin first and foremost.
I’ve been lucky enough to have Euan guide me on 2 epic trips now in the last 18 months – the first was a Summer alpine adventure in the Alps, and the second was a week of trad climbing in North Wales. Both were fantastic and I greatly benefited from Euan’s time, skills and experience.
With his BMG, IFMGA and MIC qualifications, Euan takes a very educational approach to your time with him and I appreciate the fact that I always end my trips with him equipped with a wider set of mountain skills and a greater sense of independence and confidence to be able to push my grade when pursuing outdoor activities on my own.
However, for me, what really sets Euan apart from his peers is his personal, easy going and down to Earth nature which means you always have a great time on your way to the summit, not just when you get there.
We have just come back from a week in the Swiss and French Alps, and Euan was one of our guides. He was always encouraging and supportive and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others looking for a friendly and professional guide. Although we were disappointed to be turned back in our attempt of Mont Blanc, due to ice (which was quite the correct decision), rather than simply turn back Euan took us to another top, so what could have been a disappointing day ended up as a good challenge and all left in good spirits.
Euan is one of the best guides I’ve ever experienced. He has the right mix of technical skills and personal attributes that result in a quality experience. I hope I have the opportunity to climb with Euan again.
Euan was one of the guides we used mountaineering in Switzerland and France. We had some great acclimation climbs and an excellent technical review that was the foundation for a successful summit of Mt. Blanc. Euan is on my short list of guides I’d hire without hesitation.
Euan, thanks for a great time.
Euan has been a fantastic mentor to me since 2006. We’ve had some amazing adventures and laughs over the last few years on trips and expeditions. I’ve learned most of my mountaineering skills from Euan, everything from my first abseil (pictured right) to lead climbing, from basic winter skills to winter climbing. He is always patient and understanding and his most useful advice to me is frequently “Keep breathing Gayle”!
Thanks for everything Euan.
Some of the best days I have had in the winter hills have been those guided by Euan. The climbing is always challenging, for me, but his calm reassurance and expertise always results in an enjoyable and memorable day.
I am already looking forward to doing more routes with him next winter!
Following our booking for a winter climb we were treated to Euan’s instruction on “Patey’s Route”, a route way above the expectations of our ability. With Euan’s expert tuition and guidance we were able have a fantastic day out in a potentially dangerous enviroment.
As an instructor, Euan had the expertise and the knowledge to provide us with the skills and know-how in order to complete the route safely with maximum enjoyment and with lasting memories of a climb which will be hard to beat! We have no hesitation in recommending Euan as a top notch instructor who will provide a brilliant day out in the mountains either in summer or winter.
Spending a day in the hills with Euan is always a pleasure: Summer or Winter he will always ensure that you’re experience of the day will be remembered. His leadership style and skills are excellent and he is always willing to instruct and pass knowledge on no matter what the activity is.
From personal experience he is one of a few individuals who supported me and taught me loads which enabled me to gain the self confidence and skills so that I could get my Summer ML [qualification]. In short, no matter the weather – summer or winter – walk, scramble or climb, Euan will always provide a quality day with the right amount of “scary” that provides a proper adventure.
I was fortunate enough to have Euan as my Guide for my first alpine adventure. Euan’s patience, knowledge and humour made our trip challenging, rewarding, educational and above all fun. I would not hesitate to book him for future outgoings and recommend him highly to anyone who is looking for a guide in the mountains or on the crag.
[Euan] is an excellent leader and seems to have a great gift of knowing the abilities of those he is leading. He definitely creates even more enthusiasm and enjoyment : even when I am going to have a really great day, he makes it even better!
Thanks for some fantastic days out in the mountains. The three days spent in Skye scambling and climbing were just amazing. You inspired great confidence and were so encouraging and patient explaining techniques. It has been great fun in your company but I’ve also felt extremely safe. Your approach has been very professional and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you to others.
I’m looking forward to future outings.
