11th to 14th September Saas Fee and Saas Grund

A team on the ascent of the Weissmies.

A team nearing the summit of the Weissmies.

From the 11th to the 14th of September I was out in the Saas Fee and Saas Grund areas where I completed with the team an Ecole De Glace session on the Triftgletscher and ascents of the Weissmies, Jegihorn Via Ferrata and the Allalinhorn. It was a nice way to finish my alpine summer. I am now back in Scotland but will be aiming to write some posts and trip reports before the regular reports start again during the winter season.

5th to 9th September Zinal and Arolla

Amazing light on the Ober Gabelhorn (foreground) and Matterhorn (background).

Dent Blanche from the Mountet Hut.

From the 5th to the 8th of September I was in the Mountet Hut near Zinal. We climbed the Besso and Blanc De Moming Traverse (AD), Caroline (D+, 10 pitches) and the Mamouth Traverse continuation (AD), Trifthorn (3728m, F+) and an attempt on the North Ridge of the Zinalrothorn. We had to turn back at 4017m on the Zinalrothorn due to high winds.

It should be noted that due to current conditions, the Trifthorn is harder than the grade suggests.

On the 9th we headed from near Arolla to the Petite Dent De Vesivi. The traverse of this peak is AD and is on excellent rock for the most part.

4th September 2011 Crevasse rescue and Cosmiques Arete

Posted by Euan @ 7:11 pm on 4/09/11

The team in less than perfect conditions on Cosmiques Arete.

Today is the first day of my Alpine Guides Assessment. We ventured out from the Midi station in less than perfect conditions to complete a crevasse rescue session before climbing Cosmiques Arete in the rain, sleet and snow. The one advantage of the poor weather was that we had the route to ourselves.
