Auchinstarry

Euan, Ivor and I had a very pleasant morning climbing at Auchinstarry Quarry today. The conditions were hot and humid, but the rock was dry. We climbed mostly in the Trundle slab area, which has a good collection of starred rou

Beinn a’Ghlo Circuit.

On Monday to Wednesday this week I was supervising a DofE group on the circuit of Beinn a’Ghlo for The City of Edinburgh Council. The group did a great job, particularly in dealing with some very varied weather including a hot day and some very heavy rain.

A good reminder to make careful route choices with the risk of lightening in the current weather and the fact that normally easy burn crossings can quickly become serious with the heavy downpours we’re experiencing.

The Stuic and Lochnagar

Paul, Portia and I are just back from a short adventure in the Southern Cairngorms. Originally we’d planned something over west, but forecasts of heavy rain and lightening meant we headed to the Lochnagar area.

After walking in and camping at Sandy Lochan on Wednesday afternoon we got up early this morning to hit a weather window and scrambled up The Stuic before heading around over Lochnagar and then down to pick up the tents.

Creag na h-Eighe

On Friday Alex, Anya and I had a great day climbing in the sunshine at Creag na h-Eighe near Dunkeld. The crag was dry, but there was heavy rain after we left in the late afternoon.

June and July in the Alps

This summer so far I have spent two weeks in the Alps. Last month with Paul we climbed the following; La Rechasse in the Vanoise, Aiguille du Goleon in Les Ecrins and Pigne de la Le in the Moiry valley.

This week with Tina, Scott, Steve and Paul I have climbed the following; Pointe de la Gliere (Matterhorn of the Vanoise), Grand Perron Traverse, Voie Princess and the Pyramide Calcaires in the Val Veny.
